Wellbeing Wednesday at BSK: Nurturing Emotional Regulation in the Lower Phase

Understanding and managing emotions is a key skill that helps children navigate the challenges of daily life, both in and outside the classroom. That’s why we dedicate time to the ‘Feelings Zones’, a framework we use daily to help students recognize, understand, and regulate their emotions in a structured way. On Wellbeing Wednesday, we celebrated how much the children had learnt about their own emotions.
What are the ‘Feelings Zones’? The Feelings Zones is a tool we use to categorize emotions into different zones, which allows children to identify where they might be emotionally and find strategies to manage their feelings. The four primary zones are: Blue Zone: Feeling low, sad, or tired. Green Zone: Feeling calm, focused, and ready to learn. Yellow Zone: Feeling excited, anxious, or overwhelmed. Red Zone: Feeling angry, frustrated, or out of control. By recognising these zones, students can better understand the emotions they are experiencing and how to navigate them. Wellbeing Wednesday Looking Ahead: More Meaningful Wellbeing Experiences
As we continue to prioritise the emotional and mental well-being of our students in the Lower Phase, we look forward to even more meaningful wellbeing experiences ahead. Each week, we are dedicated to introducing new activities from the Kindness Curriculum that help our young learners grow, reflect, and develop skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
From mindfulness practices and emotional intelligence lessons to creative outlets like art and storytelling, the possibilities for learning and growth are endless. We can’t wait to see how our students continue to develop our core values and a positive sense of self as we continue to build on the foundation of wellbeing we’ve established.
