Introduction by the Head Teacher

The Primary phase at The British School of Kuwait comprises the Lower Department (Reception to Year 2) and the Junior Department (Years 3-5).

By teaching the English National Curriculum complemented by a strong pastoral programme the Lower and Junior Departments at BSK seek to guide and inspire children to become resilient, lifelong learners and the leaders of the future.

Our curriculum is demanding, creative and constantly reviewed for relevance, breadth and effect. We understand that children learn best by doing, exploring and being appropriately challenged, whilst feeling safe, valued and part of a lively community. The incredible range of extracurricular activities further enhances life at BSK and provides important opportunities for children to foster skills and desirable qualities.

Our teachers are fully qualified to British standards, receive ongoing training and are encouraged to model learning themselves. Recent initiatives to enhance our work have included Assessment for Learning, Attitudes to Learning, our Student Leadership Programme and the development of our Virtual Learning Environment.

Primary students at BSK are encouraged to become active learners, able to take responsibility for their lives, and to become leaders in their own way. Enrolling your children at BSK is not only to prepare them for secondary school and university, but to prepare them for life, as we develop their dispositions and aptitudes for a rapidly changing world.

Students at BSK benefit from the close liaison between Reception staff and The Sunshine Kindergarten and from that between the Junior and Middle Departments. Special information sessions and pastoral activities, both for students and parents, greatly reduce the difficulties students sometimes face when changing schools or key stages, and at BSK the pivotal role of the home-school relationship is recognised.

It is a privilege to lead such dynamic children and staff as we have in the Lower and Junior Departments at BSK. I would be delighted to hear from you and look forward to welcoming you to our school community.

Mr Mark Brisbane
