eLearning

Our eLearning initiative fuses the very best of traditional teaching and learning – a hallmark of BSK since its inception – with the resources, tools and opportunities provided by the very latest Information Technology.

Infrastructure

The entire BSK campus is covered in a fantastic new wireless network which employs some of the latest network technology to ensure that our students can access learning materials from across the world. All classrooms are equipped with Interactive Whiteboards and digital projectors.

Students and teachers all access the school wireless network via laptop computers.

In the Lower and Junior phases students use their own iPads making use of both applications (apps) and features of the iPad hardware, such as the camera, to enhance their educational experience.

Our Virtual Learning Environment

The BSK Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is on online educational platform for BSK students. In the Lower and Junior Phases parents access the VLE as a portal to find out about the work being done and to catch-up on the events taking place via the individual year group blogs. Support for upcoming assessments is also available to help students to prepare for tests.

In the middle, upper and sixth-form students access the VLE themselves and every subject has a significant presence on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Depending upon the subject students can access their lessons, homework and links to other on-line resources to which their teachers has directed them.

Student Laptops

From Year 6 onwards, students are required to bring a BSK-networked laptop each day to all of their lessons. BSK recommends a minimum specification in order to ensure that students’ laptops will meet the needs of the curriculum. Recently purchased laptops will almost certainly meet the minimum requirements of:

  • Microsoft Windows operating system
  • 1GB RAM (Memory)
  • 100GB Hard Drive (Storage)
  • WiFi certified 802.11g/n

Students considering their options for IGCSE or A-level may wish to consult with their teacher about specific software and hardware requirements if they are considering the purchase of a laptop.

For a variety of reasons the school does not recommend the purchase of an Apple laptop for use in BSK.
