Sixth Form

The Sixth Form is the culmination of the Higher Phase at BSK and the most advanced stage of the British school system. Sixth Form is the collective term for Year 12 (the Lower Sixth) and Year 13 (the Upper Sixth).

Our senior students have the opportunity to study towards a wide range of AS and A Level subjects, obtaining globally recognised qualifications that enable them to apply to some of the world's top universities.

Sixth Form Qualifications

In Year 12, students typically study four Advanced Subsidiary (AS Level) subjects. In Year 13, students typically take three (sometimes four) of their AS Level subjects forward to a higher level, known as A2. Some students also broaden their studies by taking an additional AS Level subject in Year 13. AS and A2 unit examinations are held in May or June.

Students also have the opportunity to complete a Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in either Year 12 or Year 13.

At BSK we offer a suite of AS and A Level qualifications that have been carefully selected from across the Pearson Edexcel (Edexcel), Oxford International Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (OxfordAQA), Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) examination boards.

Students may graduate either from Year 12 with AS Levels or may continue to Year 13 and gain full A Level qualifications, the results of which will determine the types of universities to which they may be able to enter.

To be eligible for entry to BSK's Year 13, all Year 12 students must enter AS Level examinations in May/June and this is reflected in the Year 13 entry conditions.

Statements of provisional examination results are released in August. Certificates of final qualification results are issued in October.

Our AS and A Level students achieve outstanding results

We are always immensely proud of the achievements of each and every one of our graduates and the Class of 2021 is no exception.

Year 12

  • At AS Level 63% of entries were at Grade A/B, with 38% at Grade A.
  • 9 students in Year 12 celebrated at least 4 A grades each.

Year 13

  • At A Level, 67% of entries were in the A*-B category, with 47% at A*/A.
  • 11 students in Year 13 celebrated at least 3 A*/A grades each.
My daughter has been in BSK since kindergarten and our love for the school has only grown through the years. BSK always encourages students and are very supportive and careful of their wellbeing, as well as their education. The Assistant Head of Sixth Form has been especially kind and helpful - always providing support and solutions wherever needed. Parent of a Sixth Form student

Our goal is for all our students to enter their first-choice university

In previous years BSK graduates are chosen to pursue their undergraduate studies at some of the world's finest universities. The UK, the USA and Canada are popular choices and destinations have included the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, Harvard University and the University of British Columbia.

The right qualifications and a stand-out university application are two vital elements on a student's journey to university, but equally important is our role in educating students about where to study, how to apply and what to expect.

As well as providing career, academic and pastoral guidance, our full-time Sixth Form Assistant Head Teacher (AHT)  assists students through the process of university selection and application: UCAS for the UK, Common Application for the USA, and other combined and individual application systems worldwide.

BSK hosts around fifteen university visits annually – ranging from individual visits by Kuwait and GCC universities through to full-scale university fairs of 25 or 30 UK, US or Canadian university representatives.

The AHT can also advise students on ToEFL, IELTS, SAT, BMAT, UKCAT, LNAT, ELAT, TSA and other additional certifications which may be required for university entrance and coordinates the preparation of students for university interviews where required.

Sixth Form is a crucial time for students and can be very difficult, but thankfully BSK keeps students motivated, giving them the opportunity to be creative and letting their opinions be heard. The teachers are very invested in their students and are incredibly understanding, helping students tackle the challenges of A levels. A big thank you to BSK for their amazing work. We are proud of our alumni and the great things they go on to achieve after their time at BSK

Our BSK Alumni Association includes former students from across the globe and from throughout the years.

Whether they are experiencing their first year at university, progressing their careers within their chosen fields or even enrolling their own children at BSK it is amazing to be a part of their journey after graduation.
