Junior Phase

Junior Phase students can excel within a curriculum that allows for pastoral and academic successes to be achieved and celebrated. The Junior Phase curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of England, and consists of English, Maths, Science, PSHE, Humanities, ICT, Art, Music, PE, Design and Technology, French, Social Studies (Year 5), Arabic First and Second language and, for our Muslim students, Islamic Studies and Quranic Studies.

Our teachers are well equipped and trained to deliver this curriculum in an exciting and engaging way. In addition to this we also deliver a series of school trips and many other exciting events such as the Junior Phase Production, Wellbeing Wednesday, Times Tables Rock Star Day, International Day and Kuwait National Day. Furthermore Year Groups specific themed days are enjoyed by all students and staff. 

Student leadership roles are an important part of life in the Junior Phase as they provide opportunities for students to have a voice in what happens throughout the school as well as enabling students to develop their own leadership skills. Children are chosen to take on the roles of Playground Pals, Sports Council Representatives and Student Council members. 

Year 3

Year 3 is the first year of Key Stage 2 education. Curriculum subject areas such as Science, Humanities, Art and ICT are carefully linked to English and Mathematics to create rich learning contexts and maximum learning opportunities.

In our Humanities topics, Weather Around the World and Ancient Egypt, we inspire children to learn about the world and people around them both present and past. 

In Science, topics such as Healthy Living, Light and Shadow, and Magnets help students develop their skills in planning and undertaking experiments.

In English and Mathematics, students are guided to reflect on the progress they have made via the use of personalised targets. These targets are shared with parents regularly throughout the year, strengthening our home-school partnership. 

Students develop skills in their Music lessons through playing the recorder and keyboards. They are encouraged to showcase their talents and star potential to the school community through opportunities such as the National Anthem each morning, Concerts and the Development Orchestra.

Students also begin to study French in Year 3, increasing their understanding of cultural diversity and assisting with the development of skills for the acquisition of additional languages. 
 

Year 4 

To build on the successes of Year 3, students in Year 4 continue to thrive throughout the curriculum. 

In our Humanities topics, students learn about rainforests and the ‘Ruthless Romans’. The students love learning about these topics and particularly enjoy celebrating their achievements during their themed dress up days. 

In Science, topics such as Inside Out (Animals and Humans), It’s Electrifying (Electricity) and What’s the Matter? (States of Matter) further develop students' knowledge and understanding.

Students further develop their skills across both English and Mathematics (Maths). By the end of Year 4, our students are expected to be fluent in all multiplication and division facts up to 12x12. Students are also exposed to a range of text types and exciting stories such as ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’. 

Year 5

Our Year 5 students are the eldest students in our Phase and are responsible for being role models to our younger students and to consistently demonstrate our School Values. Children in Year 5 are expected to show greater independence in preparation for life in the Middle Phase. 

The subject of Social Studies is introduced in Year 5, when children use iPads to learn about Kuwait and the Middle East. Students enjoy their school trips enriching their knowledge about Kuwait and its history. 

Save Planet Earth, Living things, Victorians, Extreme Earth, Forces and Space and Aztecs are topics covered in Year 5. Two key highlights of these topics are when students work collaboratively to create a volcano and watch it erupt. Furthermore, the infamous Victorian Day to celebrate our Victorian topic provides our students with a real life experience of what a Victorian School day would have been like. 

Our Year 5 students further develop their love for reading through exploring the class novels of Kensuke’s Kingdom, Street Child and Runaway Robot. In maths, students deepen their understanding of key topics through a variety of stretch and challenge activities. 

Students participate in Physical Education lessons that link with the Kuwait Foreign Schools Association Competitions (KFSAC), including football, basketball, bench ball, swimming and general fitness. Extra-curricular sporting activities include training for competitions against other schools in Kuwait.
