Year 5 is a very important year for BSK students, a time when we prepare students academically and socially for life in the Middle Department.
The Year 5 curriculum is designed to aid students’ skills of organisation and encourages greater autonomy and participation in learning. Personalised target setting, discussions of success criteria and student use of National Curriculum Levels is intensified, with an emphasis on students knowing where they are in their learning and what they need to do to improve. Year 5 pastoral and academic objectives also encourage students to develop the skills and maturity to pass this vital information on to parents themselves on a regular basis, strengthening the home-school partnership.
Many links are made between subject areas. To integrate learning and curriculum enhancement we include trips to the Kuwait Natural History Museum and the Planetarium, both which enrich knowledge and support a growing interest in the world around us.
Music continues to be a joy in Y5 with guitar and brass groups leading the way, building on the inclusive work of Year 4.Many of the budding stars hone their performance skills in our assemblies and open evenings as part of our Student Leadership Programme.
Students are also invested with an increasing social responsibility and are encouraged to take on wider school positions. As well as continuing to play a role in the Sports Council, they are eligible for appointment to the Year 5 Prefect team and the School Council.
With challenging academic expectations and broader opportunities to display and develop leadership, The British School of Kuwait brings out the best in young people.
