Year 3 is an exciting and vibrant year and the first year of the children’s Key Stage 2 education.  In this transitional year children are carefully assigned from Y2 into new Y3 classes, in a manner that acknowledges existing friendship groups yet allows increased room for new growth in social skills, friendships and academic partnerships.

In Year 3 we enhance our already full and challenging curriculum with a series of themed weeks and special events. A major event for Year 3 students is the annual Year 3 production. This is a showcase for students to demonstrate their talents and star potential to the school community, family and friends. Last year we performed Roald Dahl’s “Snow White and the Seven Jockeys” which was acclaimed by one and all. This year we will be performing another Roald Dahl classic “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”.

We also enrich the curriculum with several trips throughout the year, such as to the KDD ice cream factory, a very popular trip indeed, and the Kuwait Natural History Museum where we learn about our local environment. Students begin to study French and as part of our International Week prepare and host an assembly celebrating cultural diversity and the benefits of learning additional languages.

By the end of Year 3, students have also studied World War II. This stimulating topic provides a wealth of opportunities to link the curriculum across subject areas and culminates in a picnic where the year group dresses up in helmets made in art lessons and listens to music of the era whilst playing school yard games of the time.  Of course, the food enjoyed is that which was rationed during the war as students learn to appreciate the choice and peace they enjoy today.
