One of the biggest moments for parents and children is the first day at school in Reception. We have special programmes to assist with this transition and the work starts well before September of a new year. Information sessions are held for parents at The Sunshine Kindergarten and tours of The British School of Kuwait Reception facilities are provided for both prospective parents and their children. In this way expectations and relationships are established well before the year even begins.
At the same time the transition from the Primary phase to the Secondary phase is eased by joint Year 5 and 6 social events and parental information evenings. More detailed information about this transition can be found here.
The advantage of the entire school occupying a single campus is clearly advantageous and as students move forward through the Departments they are already familiar with the staff and facilities encountered.
Students in the Junior Department are mixed as they move into Year 3 and again into Year 5. This is part of a carefully planned pastoral programme whereby we introduce students to some new friends whilst still placing them with a few familiar faces. Children adapt quickly to their new circumstances and under the guidance of their class tutor, who teaches the core subjects, students learn to be more open, resourceful and outgoing than if they were to stay in the same group throughout their time in primary.
In this way we ease the transition into the Middle Department, where children must cope with mixed classes and different teachers at once. Though a very few parents occasionally question the policy, The British School of Kuwait always has the best interests of its students in mind and is firm in reserving the right to allocate students to any of its classes across the Lower and Junior Departments.
