Introduction by the Head Teacher

The Secondary phase at The British School of Kuwait comprises the Middle Department (Years 6-8), Upper Department (Years 9-11) and Sixth Form Department (Years 12-13).

Our capable and dedicated teachers seek to inculcate in their students the attitudes, attributes, knowledge and skills that will prepare them for successful, fulfilling careers and personal lives.

To achieve this, mutual responsibility and teamwork are vital. BSK is a learning community – teachers and students, working together.

Our teachers strive continually to refine both their teaching skills and our programmes of study. They plan quality lessons in which every student can be fully engaged and so develop at an appropriate pace. They work diligently to mark work and feed back to students both their current level and practical, realistic steps by which they can make further progress.

In turn, students are required to trust their teachers, respond to guidance and work diligently to achieve their potential. Good manners, self-discipline and sensitivity to others’ needs are key. BSK students understand that they share with their teachers the responsibility to be honest, polite, kind and thoughtful.

The development of students’ extracurricular interests and skills is also very much encouraged, and BSK is justifiably proud of its ever-expanding range of quality breaktime and afterschool clubs and activities. Collectively these serve to further enhance the breadth and roundedness of our educational provision.

The results are clear to see: most obviously in our students’ exceptional GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A Level grades, but even more importantly in terms of who they become by the time they leave for university: secure, confident, self-motivated young people who are ready and willing to make a positive impact on their world.
