VLE
The Lower and Junior Departments at The British School of Kuwait use English National Curriculum Levels to assess student progress and achievement from Year one to Year five.
Children in Reception are assessed using the Early Learning Goals applicable to the final year of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
National Curriculum Levels
Children develop at different rates but National Curriculum levels provide an idea of how children’s progress compares to what is typical for their age. In accordance with Kuwaiti law we assign a grade to the National Curriculum Levels we award in each Year Group. At The British School of Kuwait we use the following grid:
Teacher Assessments
Throughout the year our teachers follow student progress through National Curriculum Levels as a normal part of their teaching. This daily formative assessment is the best method of identifying at what level a child is working and how children may be assisted to make further progress. These teacher assessments form the basis of our school reports.
Reports
Twice a year formal school reports are released indicating which National Curriculum Level best describes children’s performance in each area of learning. Non-National Curriculum subjects, such as Arabic, are given grades only.
