The British School of Kuwait takes great pride in the music instrumental service that it offers. We employ a dedicated and experienced team of trained instrumental teachers who have played with some of the top orchestras in the world.
We are delighted that during the academic year 2009/10 we continued to achieve great success both on the local, national and international stages. La Camerata won Best Ensemble at the Young Musicians of the Gulf Competition for the fourth consecutive year and our piano students won both the national and international Chopin Competitions organised by the Kuwait Philharmonic. The ABRSM exams are an internationally recognised standard of instrumental ability and once again BSK set new records for both number of entrants and their standards.
In order to accommodate the increasing number of beginners wishing to enrol on courses, beginners are offered small group lessons on orchestral instruments. This has many advantages, including promoting the feeling of security and the social aspects of music from a young age.
Our more experienced musicians are taught individually as the demands and rigours of the instrument become more demanding.
Instrumental lesson fees are set at the start of each academic year but represent exceptional value for money.
Wherever possible, group instrumental lessons will be conducted during students’ curriculum music time. Where this is not possible, lessons will be conducted on a rotating timetable, ensuring that no one curriculum lesson is disproportionately affected.
We encourage our students to acquire their own instruments and the music team can provide expert advice in this field. However, the school has a full range of orchestral instruments that are available to hire.
All students are encouraged to perform on a regular basis through assembly times and weekly informal concerts as well as during the music festival week.
All students work through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) syllabus and are expected to take ABRSM examinations on their instruments when they reach a suitable standard.
