The Junior Phase (JP) consists of Years 3, 4 and 5 and aims to provide each of our students with an exciting, stimulating and challenging education.
Each of our students is offered opportunities to excel within a curriculum that allows for academic, artistic and linguistic successes to be achieved and celebrated. The Junior Phase curriculum is based on the National Curriculum of England, and consists of English, Maths, Science, Humanities, ICT, Art, Music, PE, Design and Technology, French, Social Studies (Year 5), Arabic First and Second language and, for our Muslim students, Islamic Studies and Quranic Studies.
Complementing this rigorous curriculum, we also deliver a series of field trips for each year group and many exciting events, such as International Day, Book Week, Art Exhibitions and Healthy Lifestyle initiatives, which include Sports Days.
Students are encouraged to become independent learners, investigating theories and challenging concepts in order to better understand the learning objectives and enrich their learning. In this environment, learning entails personal fulfilment as well as meeting exacting academic requirements.
In assemblies, students display their talents each week, often as individual performers of music or poetry, or as a whole class for their invited parents. Assemblies also see celebrations for house points and birthdays.
Consequently, by Year 5, our students are showing a confidence and maturity well beyond their years. This is formally acknowledged, with students being invited to join the team of Year 5 Prefects and School Council members while some are chosen to perform other special roles within the school as student leaders.
The Primary Leadership Team and class teachers are aware that the way forward is to create a safe and secure learning environment and to forge a solid partnership with our parents. The sharing of information, the celebration of success and the delivery of exciting activities in and out of the classroom ensures the Junior Phase students will thrive in the wider world.
I hope this has given you an insight into the Junior Phase at The British School of Kuwait. Please browse our year group pages and as always, I look forward to meeting you as visitors to the school, prospective parents and of course existing parents and friends.
