We believe that our students should be helped to understand the process of growing up. This page has been created so that parents will know how and when we do this. This will also help parents to decide whether to provide their child with any further information.
In Term 4 of Year 6, the Senior School Nurse gives separate puberty presentations to girls and boys. Topics include bodily changes, skin hygiene, body odour and oral health.
The Science unit 'Biology 2' taught towards the end of Year 7 includes puberty, fertilisation, foetal development, labour and birth in mammals, including humans.
During Year 8, the Senior School Nurse gives additional presentations on puberty to boys and girls - again separately.
Middle Department PSHE topics such as 'All About Me', 'How should I behave?', 'Developing and Maintaining Friendships' and 'Peer Pressure' enable students to think about how to handle emotional challenges which can affect teenagers.
The Year 11 Biology unit 'Reproduction' covers the structures of male and female reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle, family planning methods and infertility treatments.
All such information and guidance is provided while giving the utmost respect to Islamic values and beliefs and to the laws and traditions of Kuwait.
Should you require any further information, please contact your child's Department Coordinator.
