Excellence Award certificates are awarded to returning Year 7-11 students whose end-of-year reports contained grades A* or A in at least half of their graded subjects. Excellence Award winners are all-round achievers across a range of subjects.
New for 2015-16 is an additional layer of recognition for some of these students. Those who gain grades A*-A in at least 70% of their subjects will receive an Excellence Award with Merit (M) and those with at least 90% an Excellence Award with Distinction (D).
Note: Year 5-9 French, German and PE and Year 6-9 Drama report only National Curriculum levels, not grades, because the normal level-grade equivalence system does not apply to these subjects in these year groups. As a consequence, A* or A grades are not reported for these subjects. However, if a student achieves the same National Curriculum level in French, German, PE or Drama that would be considered to be an A* or A grade in other subjects, then for purposes of deciding whether or not the student receives an Excellence Award, it will be counted as an additional subject and as an additional A*/A grade.
