Miss Emma Bowie BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Coordinator
Emma graduated with a degree in English Studies from the University of Northumbria and then obtained her PGCE in Secondary English from St Mary's College, Durham University. Before moving into international education, she taught at a renowned independent school in the north-east of England. Emma moved to Kuwait in 2005 and joined BSK as Assistant English Coordinator, becoming English Coordinator in 2008 and Sixth Form Coordinator in 2012. Her personal interests include travel, literature and the theatre.

Miss Jennifer Ayres BA PGCEAssistant English Coordinator
Jennifer graduated in 2006 from St Mary’s College London with a BA in English and Drama. She then went on to Rolle College where she qualified as an English Teacher. She has been teaching English at The British School of Kuwait since September 2007. Jennifer’s personal interests lie primarily in the Performing Arts where she loves to watch, perform or help with productions. She also enjoys travelling the world and of course reading.

Mr David Howarth BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Teacher
David graduated in English and then completed his teacher training at Leeds University. He worked for Wigan Council for three years before moving in 1999 to The British School of Gran Canaria, where he was the Key Skills Coordinator and then PSHE Coordinator. David joined BSK in 2002, serving as Assistant English Coordinator and as Records and Reports Coordinator before being appointed as Secondary English Coordinator in 2012. David's personal interests include reading, watching movies and travelling.

Miss Sophie Ali BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Teacher
Sophie graduated with a degree in English and subsequently gained her teaching qualification from the University of Bath in 2009. As a newly qualified teacher she took the opportunity to immerse herself in a new culture by moving to Kuwait. Whilst working at The British School of Kuwait, she has undertaken the duties of a tutor, as well as becoming involved in various British Council initiatives. Her personal interests include music, modern dance and learning languages.

Miss Khadija Broome BA(Hons) PGCEAssistant Secondary Department CoordinatorEnglish Teacher
Khadija graduated from Queen Mary, University of London, with a degree in English Literature and then qualified as an English teacher at the Institute of Education, London. Khadija began her teaching career in 2005 and after four years teaching English in west London, she moved to Kuwait and joined BSK in 2010. Khadija was appointed as Assistant Secondary Department Coordinator in 2012. Her personal interests include reading a range of literature, keeping fit and cooking.

Miss Bethan Evans BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Teacher
Bethan graduated in Linguistics and Literature from the University of York before moving to Cardiff to work for the Royal National Institute for the Blind as a Braille transcriber. After two years working to provide educational books for visually impaired children, she returned to her native north Wales to study for her PGCE in Secondary English at Bangor University. In 2010, having taught in schools across north Wales for six years, Bethan moved to Kuwait to take up her present role at BSK. Her interests include reading, music and travelling.

Miss Abigail Bartholomew BA(Hons) MAEnglish Teacher
Abigail studied English and Journalism at university and then spent seven years as a broadcast journalist before qualifying from her PGCE with Masters. She graduated with the highest accolade of Outstanding and received equal praise when observed by OFSTED. With the ambition of one day writing a novel, Abigail loves creative writing and writes restaurant reviews for The Good Food Guide in the UK. She is a keen swimmer, an experienced long-distance runner and also enjoys cooking, travelling and learning new things!

Mr Mike Hewlett BA(Hons) QTSEnglish Teacher
Mike graduated in Performing Arts from Rose Bruford College and after a few years as an actor trained at Bretton Hall as a Drama teacher while teaching in South Yorkshire. After ten years of teaching Drama and English in that particular region he moved, with his wife, to Kuwait in 2010. Mike currently teaches both English and Drama. His personal interests include all aspects of the theatre, ten pin bowling, golf, cooking and travelling.

Mr David Allcock CertEd PGCEEnglish Teacher
David, following a family tradition that goes back a long way, has been involved with the theatre for as long as he remembers – a long time! He has taught Drama in every school in which he has worked and still, in – as he puts it – the twilight of a long career, enjoys the thrill of introducing young people to the joys of performing. His major interest outside the theatre is the renovation of his family home in southern France.
