Mr David Howarth BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Coordinator
David graduated in English and then completed his teacher training at Leeds University. He worked for Wigan Council for three years before moving in 1999 to The British School of Gran Canaria, where he was the Key Skills Coordinator and then PSHE Coordinator. David joined BSK in 2002, serving as Assistant English Coordinator and as Records and Reports Coordinator before being appointed as Secondary English Coordinator in 2012. David's personal interests include reading, watching movies and travelling.

Miss Sophie Ali BA(Hons) PGCEAssistant English Coordinator
Sophie graduated with a degree in English and subsequently gained her teaching qualification from the University of Bath in 2009. As a newly qualified teacher she took the opportunity to immerse herself in a new culture by moving to Kuwait. Whilst working at The British School of Kuwait, she has undertaken the duties of a tutor, as well as becoming involved in various British Council initiatives. Her personal interests include music, modern dance and learning languages.

Ms Emma Bowie BA(Hons) PGCESixth Form CoordinatorEnglish Teacher
Emma graduated with a degree in English Studies from the University of Northumbria and then obtained her PGCE in Secondary English from St Mary's College, Durham University. Before moving into international education, she taught at a renowned independent school in the north-east of England. Emma moved to Kuwait in 2005 and joined BSK as Assistant English Coordinator, becoming English Coordinator in 2008 and Sixth Form Coordinator in 2012. Her personal interests include travel, literature and the theatre.

Ms Estelle Jones BA(Hons) QTSMiddle Department CoordinatorEnglish Teacher
Estelle graduated with Qualified Teacher Status in English from the University of Lancaster. After five years teaching English Literature and Language, she moved with her husband and children to join The British School of Kuwait in 2009. Having taught English from Year 6 to 13 and worked as Assistant Department Coordinator, Estelle became Middle Department Coordinator in 2011. Her personal interests include travelling, reading and spending time with her family.

Miss Khadija Broome BA(Hons) PGCEAssistant Secondary Department CoordinatorEnglish Teacher
Khadija graduated from Queen Mary, University of London, with a degree in English Literature and then qualified as an English teacher at the Institute of Education, London. Khadija began her teaching career in 2005 and after four years teaching English in west London, she moved to Kuwait and joined BSK in 2010. Khadija was appointed as Assistant Secondary Department Coordinator in 2012. Her personal interests include reading a range of literature, keeping fit and cooking.

Miss Bethan Evans BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish TeacherDebating Coordinator (External)
Bethan graduated in Linguistics and Literature from the University of York before moving to Cardiff to work for the Royal National Institute for the Blind as a Braille transcriber. After two years working to provide educational books for visually impaired children, she returned to her native north Wales to study for her PGCE in Secondary English at Bangor University. In 2010, having taught in schools across north Wales for six years, Bethan moved to Kuwait to take up her present role at BSK. Her interests include reading, music and travelling.

Miss Abigail Bartholomew BA(Hons) MAEnglish TeacherDebating Coordinator (Internal)
Abigail studied English and Journalism at university and then spent seven years as a broadcast journalist before qualifying from her PGCE with Masters. She graduated with the highest accolade of Outstanding and received equal praise when observed by OFSTED. With the ambition of one day writing a novel, Abigail loves creative writing and writes restaurant reviews for The Good Food Guide in the UK. She is a keen swimmer, an experienced long-distance runner and also enjoys cooking, travelling and learning new things!

Mr David Cox BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Teacher
David graduated from Kingston University with an honours degree in English Literature. He obtained his PGCE from the University of Worcester. He began work as a cover teacher and ESL instructor in Devon. David has taught in the ESL sector in the Kuwait Ministry, the American University of Kuwait and the state sector in South Korea. David teaches English and Drama at BSK. His personal interests include voluntary work, politics and travel.

Ms Helen Graham BA(Hons) PGCEEnglish Teacher
Helen graduated in English with Drama in 1992 and worked for Derbyshire County Council for many years in Adult and Community Education, running literacy projects in Derby City and Derbyshire before completing her PGCE at the University of Nottingham in 2007. Before moving to Kuwait and joining BSK, she worked as Assistant English Coordinator at the Ormiston Ilkeston Academy. Helen’s personal interests include reading, quizzes, Zumba and travelling.

Miss Susan Tyson BA STCEnglish Teacher
Susan graduated in English, History and Political Science from the University of Western Australia and in Secondary Teaching from Perth’s Edith Cowan University. She has held posts in national and international schools in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Russia, the USA, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines. She has taught English, History, Political Science and Legal Studies, and was History Coordinator at the British School Riyadh. Susan's personal interests include literature, current affairs, theatre, music and tennis.
