Assemblies are a vehicle through which student successes, individual, class and House, are celebrated and worthwhile values instilled. The Head Teachers, Phase Coordinators and Year Heads lead weekly assemblies using guest presenters, stories, puppets or drama to deal with themes such as cooperation, bullying, achievement, charity, personal reflection and growth, along with leadership. Many of these assemblies are based on the UK's Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme.
Curricular assemblies with students sharing their best work are held regularly. Excerpts from BSK productions are also common, as are contributions from the Music and PE teams. As part of the Student Leadership Programme, the Junior Head Teacher also holds poetry assemblies in Term 4, encouraging Junior Phase students to discover and interpret poems as they recite them for peers from the stage.
Each Primary class has the opportunity to perform for parents and peers and confidence and skills gained in that process are well recognised as flowing back to support the academic sphere.
Our School Nurses conduct assemblies that deal with teeth, weight and hygiene, as well as how to be sun smart, fit and active. We also address road safety issues such as wearing seat belts and how to cross the road. Internet safety is also addressed at an age-appropriate level.
