Year 4 is a year for building upon prior knowledge and for consolidation of learning for our Key Stage 2 students.  It’s a busy year, with special events and themed weeks enhancing an already full and stimulating curriculum.

Our students experience a variety of topic work that may see the Year 4 corridor full of skeletal art work, relating to Moving and Growing, or visitors may think they are walking through the Amazon rainforests, as the students learn about The Environment and Habitats. At times the corridor resembles an Olde English street, as students display their work on The Tudors. Children also get a real taste of history as they dress up and sample Tudor pottage during our History Theme Week.

As part of International Week celebrations students enjoy a French Café and contribute to a festival recognising the more than 70 nationalities represented within our student body. French at this stage is taught very interactively, with an emphasis on games, songs, puppets and ICT.

A special part of Year 4 is our Wider Opportunities music programme which has every student playing an orchestral instrument. Music lessons resound to the sound of individuals and groups playing clarinets, flutes, cellos, violins, trumpets and percussion.

During Year 4 students extend classroom learning by benefit of well planned and interesting school trips. A visit to the gym shows students the effects exercise has on their bodies, they become environmentally aware on their beach clean up excursion and trips to the Imax theatre and Aquarium stimulate discussions, global awareness and research on the topic of Animals, Environments and Habitats.
