The Senior Management Team (SMT) at The British School of Kuwait is charged by the Chairman, Mr Sadiq Al-Mutawa, with guiding the managers, teachers, students, administrators and auxiliaries to create, to maintain and to develop further the learning experiences that define the School.
Mme Vera Al-MutawaFounder
Vera has lived in Kuwait since 1969. She founded the original Sunshine School in 1978 and was the driving force behind its successful expansion as BSK. Vera has extensive knowledge of Middle Eastern cultures and educational systems and provides the school with a fund of local knowledge and contacts in the educational, commercial and diplomatic worlds.

Dr Hanan Al-MutawaExecutive Director
Hanan graduated from Kuwait University in 1992 and took her Master of Science degree from Heriot-Watt University in 1996. She gained a Doctorate in Education from Al-Azhar University in 2005. Hanan has previously held a number of posts including Arabic Coordinator, Administration Manager and Assistant Principal. Hanan participates in numerous philanthropic endeavours. She has been a member of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society since 1993 and a member of the Kuwait Union of Private Schools since 2008. Hanan also serves on the boards of various education-related government committees.

Mr Paul ShropshirePrincipal
Paul joined BSK in 1996 as Upper Department Coordinator, becoming Assistant Head Teacher in 1999, Head Teacher in 2001 and Principal in 2008. Paul first arrived in Kuwait in 1981 and, consequently, has a wealth of experience in the operations of schools in Kuwait. A graduate of both the University of Liverpool and of the University of Chester, Paul is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and an experienced mountain-walking leader.

Mr Mark BrisbanePrimary Head Teacher
Mark graduated from Monash University in 1998 and after teaching in the UK and Lebanon arrived at BSK as a Year 5 teacher in 2002. He assumed leadership roles in the Middle Department and Junior Department before being appointed Head Teacher in 2009. Mark is the father of two young children who occupy most of his leisure time. His other interests include fishing and keeping fit.
Mr Andrew MouldenSecondary Head Teacher
Andrew graduated in Mathematics and obtained his teaching qualification from the University of Glasgow. Having taught Mathematics and Computing in Scotland for five years, he joined BSK in 1998. Andrew has held a range of positions, including Summer Camp Director, Publications Coordinator, Mathematics Coordinator and Sixth Form Coordinator. He was appointed as Head Teacher in 2010. Andrew’s personal interests include experimental music and internet commerce. He also manages BSK’s website and social media presence.

Miss Patricia WhelanPublic Relations Manager
Patricia is a graduate of Psychology, Philosophy and Classical Studies at University College Dublin and has a teaching qualification in Primary Education and a Masters Degree in Special Education. Having taught in Ireland for eighteen years she came to Kuwait in 1992 and has held myriad positions at BSK including Key Stage 2 Coordinator, Deputy Head Teacher, Marketing Manager, Administration Manager and Public Relations Manager. Her personal interests include classical music, theatre, textiles and walking.
